As we look forward to a safe return to studying abroad, we are presented with the unique opportunity to reflect on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected our lives and changed society. In this essay contest, students are encouraged to contextualize the 2020 pandemic as an influential period in history.
Open to students in U.S. grades 8-12 (or international equivalent) during the 2020-2021 school year who have been referred by an educator at their school.

Completed essays must be submitted by January 31, 2021, for consideration. Winners will be announced in mid-February.
Scholarship Prizes:
Two full scholarships (100% tuition) will be awarded to two winning students for the 2021 program of their choice.
• 9-12th Graders: Programs available in Oxford, Cambridge, Barcelona, Salamanca, Paris, Montpellier, or New York City
Throughout history, diseases have shown their ability to dramatically and permanently change society. Imagine you are a historian in the year 2120 documenting the COVID-19 pandemic. What effect did the 2020 pandemic have on the world, and from what resources do you draw your evidence?

Students should submit an essay of approximately 1,000 words on the topic above. Essays should be submitted in English; students interested in attending a language immersion course in Salamanca or Montpellier are asked to submit their essay in Spanish or French (must be a non-native speaker of Spanish or French with at least three years of instruction in the target language).
